RECYCLE IS FUN

Level: Form 2 (Beginner – Intermediate)

Location: Rural or Sub-urban

Theme: Environment

Time: 11.10am – 11.40 am (30 minutes)

Aims: To find specific information on a Website; to learn and practice vocabulary
associated with recycling.

General Objectives: Students should be able to;

-Obtain information from various text-types such as articles and reports and present the information briefly to others orally and in writing

-Socialize with friends and in groups make plans and arrangements for joint activities


Learning Outcomes: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to;

1.2 (c) making plans and arrangements

2.1 (b) obtain information for different purposes by – reading materials such as articles in print and in electronic media

2.2 (a) process information by – skimming and scanning for specific information and ideas

2.2 (f) process information by – getting meaning of unfamiliar words by using word attack skills


Educational Emphasis:

-CCTS (problem solving, decision making)

-Multiple Intelligences ( Naturalist, Logical, Linguistic and Interpersonal
Intelligences)

-ICT Skills


Technical Requirements: One computer per pair of students with an internet
connection and a web browser.

Preparations:

1.Locate sites dedicated to recycling for kids.

2.Using the information on the site to prepare worksheets.

Procedures:

1.Show to students a product from recycle (eg: a bag or paper).

2.Ask students any information that they know related to recycling.

3.Explain briefly to students about recycling.

4.Give them instruction saying that they will have to complete two worksheets as
pair work and while they are working on it, they should note any words that are new or difficult for them.

5.Distribute the first worksheet to students. Ask them to answer on their own. They can then check the correct answer from the given website address.

6.Distribute the second worksheet to students. Let them know that they can get the answers from the chosen sites. The first three pairs to finish with correct answers will be acknowledged.

7.Once the students have finished, teacher will discuss their work and deal with any words that are new and difficult for them to understand.


Follow-up activity:
- Each pair will have to create a poster about recycling. They will have to include at least one recyclable item on their poster (eg: pieces of glass or aluminium). They will present their poster in the next class.
